Before and after: A donated desk gets a makeover
For our last Upcycling Committee meeting we took on our first furniture project. A beautiful green desk was donated and its attractive design made us want to see what it would look like with a fresh coat of paint (it actually took about 5 coats). It's so fun to get together as a committee and be creative.
We decided to use Fat Paint, a chalk like paint that does not require extensive sanding before it's applied. Shoko did sand some of the nicks on the desk, just to even out the surface.
Our next step was painting! We had suggestion forms in the store to get customer feedback about what colours to chose and we loved the Simply Mauve and Gull Grey combination that one of our customers suggested.
Sierra, Nicky and Jenn were hard at work.
The advantages of using this type of paint is that it is easy to apply and not very smelly since it's low in V.O.Cs. Also, a huge bonus I discovered is that it comes out of clothing with soap and water. It did require quiet a few coats but the finished look is soft and antique looking.
And here is the final product! It went out to the store last week and has since found its way to someone's home.
We are now pretty inspired to do more furniture makeovers, so keep an eye out for our future projects!
