Community Support from St.Margaret's School
We have had an amazing journey with students and teachers from St. Margaret’s School in 2014. We started connecting with the school a few years ago through a presentation to grade 8 students. Now the whole school is involved in various projects raising awareness for WIN.
Earlier in 2014, students brainstormed ideas on how they could help WIN. It was amazing to see so many hands raised and the students enthusiastic to share ideas (and not just ordinary but brilliant ones). Based on that brainstorming session, they ran a clothing drive (they dropped off the donations too, which we greatly appreciated!). Students also organized a fashion show using donated goods, had a bake sale as well as a homemade teddy bear sale and finally sewed three incredible quilts with encouraging messages for women in our programs.
Our favorite moments have been visiting the school on these occasions and seeing the students work on these projects. Each student really understands the need to contribute to the local community and they are passionate about helping.
The money raised by students has been put towards our Self Sufficiency Program and Transformations Program. The quilts…well, they are so special that we want to keep one to put on display and the other two will be given to families in our programs. Each piece of fabric has a message from a student, collectively making the quilt such a beautiful symbol of encouragement. Thank you to everybody at St. Margaret’s School for being such a strong supporter of WIN!
