How our Transformations Program is having an impact
WIN’s Transformations Program just wrapped up another successful week long personal development program with 11 participants. This course is offered to help group members increase self awareness and self-acceptance, address behavioural patterns, improve communication skills and relationships, and explore opportunities to make life changes.
Here is an interview with Nicky Fast, one of the facilitators of the Program, shedding light on the power of the program.
Why did WIN start the program?
We wanted to fill in the gap – we had crisis based programs such as the Gift Certificate and New Start Programs, and our Self Sufficiency Program has been really impactful in supporting women on their journey to financial self sufficiency, but we had nothing that directly supported women towards personal self sufficiency. Our aim was to support women to look at patterns that may have contributed to difficulty in their lives, and support them to make long term changes.
What impact does offering Transformations have in the community?
There is a ripple effect. The program has an impact on a participant, then onto her children, relationships, family, job, and the list goes on. Through activities that increase self awareness, participants become mindful of their choices, behaviours, and their environment, and that leads to breaking ineffective patterns and learning self acceptance, and this is very powerful for them.
What is the benefit of running the program in a group setting?
The group setting benefits all learning styles and people are able to connect with one another and learn from each other. They are able to see themselves in others and resonate with them through shared experiences. Connection creates movement in their lives where isolation doesn't. When they learn in a group setting, they feel empathy and support from one another, realizing that they are not alone.
Who benefits the most from this program?
Participants, of course, but ultimately everyone does through its ripple effect. As a facilitator, I learn a great deal. There is no greater gift in the world than someone sharing their story.
Here are some quotes from this month’s participants:
“The Transformations Program was life changing. I have learned skills and tools that will benefit my life and my daughter’s as well.”
“It is extremely important for the community to support this program because enriching the lives of women will enrich the lives of their children, family, friends, and the world!”
“I feel energized after taking the Transformations Program. I have more belief in myself and feel more centred. The Program has also introduced me to more resources as well as new friends.”
Our next Transformations Program will be held in September 2015.
