How your donations make a difference
This is Jenn packing a New Start package
As the Donation’s Coordinator, I often get asked by donors how people who are in need access items from our stores. There are many ways that donating to WIN supports community members in need.
Each week, through our New Start Program, we help women and children who are moving into their own homes, after leaving the Cridge and the Victoria Women’s Transition Houses, to set up their homes with the furniture and household items they need. This program helps over 100 women and their families each year.
Through our Gift Certificate Program we work closely with local transition houses and many community organizations by providing them with a yearly budget so that they can offer WIN gift certificates to their clients. This allows a woman to fill essential needs for clothing, household and children’s items through a discreet shopping experience in which she has the power to decide what items she and her family need. During the last year we have supported 476 women through this program. WIN also donates many goods to organizations which enables them to support their clients and put on programming.
The pricing of items in our store is also meant to accommodate people in lower income brackets to access good quality items at a lower cost. Regular clothing prices have only gone up once in 10 years and children’s items have not increased in price since we started 25 years ago.
As a not for profit social enterprise Women In Need is strongly committed to helping women along all steps of their journey to self sufficiency. This includes offering them essential items or crisis referral when they face challenging times, as well as partnering with them to support them in pursuing opportunities for growth and personal success.
Without donors, we would not be able to do what we do, so thank you very much from all of us at WIN!
