Donation Guidelines
We gratefully accept gently used Houseware and Clothing donations at our Donation Centre which is located at 555 Ardersier Rd.
*Please note, We can accept only housewares on Mondays, as we have shorter hours
The things that we accept include:
Generally, we can accept most items listed in the drop down menu below. Our Donation Centre staff will do a quick check before bringing your donations inside to ensure they are suitable for our programs. Please check our Google listing for up-to-date hours, as we may occasionally need to close due to unforeseen circumstances.

-Decorative items (including art)
-Gently used / like-new kitchen items
-Antique, vintage and collectable items
-Electronics (TVs cannot be older than 5 years and must have an HDMI port)
-Small appliances (such as microwaves and toaster ovens etc. that are in excellent condition)
-Toys
-Books
-Art, craft and stationary items
-Small rugs
-When possible we will gratefully accept larger sized houseware items such as rugs and large art pieces.
-If you are unsure about an item, please get in touch and we would be happy to help*Please note that we cannot accept Text Books and Encyclopedias

-Adult and children’s clothing for all genders
-Jewelry
-Purses
-Shoes
-Hats, belts, gloves, scarves
-Undergarments and socks
-Bed & bath linens
*Please note, we do not accept clothing for recycling. Please ensure that clothing is new, or gently used, and in excellent condition. -
Furniture Donations we accept by drop off* (or in some cases by pick up*):
We can only accept gently used items from smoke free/pet free homes that are in like-new, or very gently used condition.
loveseats
armchairs
bar stools and foot stools
small shelves
small outdoor furniture pieces like patio sets/chairs
small wood or metal book shelves
bar tables
small kitchen table sets with 2-4 chairs
small coffee tables and end tables
hallway and entry tables
tall boy style and smaller dressers (without a mirror)
mobile kitchen carts
We are limited in space so please contact homeshop@womeninneed.ca to ensure we have space to plan your drop off, and if you have any questions about what we accept.
*Styles we’re always looking for: smaller mid century modern pieces, funky, fun, artsy, modern, IKEA/IKEA style.

mattresses, boxsprings, and simple metal bedframe sets. These are not sold in store but exclusively delivered through our New Start program to participants setting up their new homes after experiencing violence. These must be in like new condition from a pet free/smoke free home in sizes single, double, or queen only.
We also pick up estates, and some key furniture we require for our New Start program.
For all pick-up inquiries please fill out our furniture pick-up request form or email photos of the items you would like picked up as a donation to win@womeninneed.ca.
Items that are not appropriate for our programs or stores:
There are a few items that we ask our donors to recycle using alternative resources. This allows us to save money on the costs of disposal and recycling which means we can use it for programs instead. We cannot accept items that are damaged, soiled, rusted, incomplete, excessively worn or in need of repairs/cleaning.

-No chemicals, paint, propane tanks, camping fuel or any other hazardous materials

no items that are not in gently used condition from pet free/ smoke free homes.
no entertainment units and tv stands or wall units
no mechanical beds, bunk beds, folding cots, hide-a-bed, futon or waterbeds
no reclining sofas, recliners or lift chairs
no buffet/hutch, china cabinets
we cannot accept most sideboards
no dining tables that seat six or more
we cannot accept most pressboard/particle pieces (Ikea/Ikea style is the only exception)
we cannot accept most desks
we cannot accept most items requiring assembly (some exceptions for new in box)
we cannot accept very large coffee tables
we cannot accept most glass tables for safety reasons
we cannot accept very large sofas or sectionals but can accept smaller sofas and sectionals based on space
we cannot accept headboards, footboards, or most bed frames (only simple metal ones for program use)

-No large appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer), blinds and curtain rods, ceiling fans, and carpeting with unfinished edges

-No car seats or carry seats, cribs and playpens, helmets, swings and walkers, bathtubs and tub-seats, high chairs and potties, change tables, basinets, baby gates, strollers.

-TV's without HDMI ports, fax machines, printers, built in sewing machines or any electronics that don't work
Donating at Hillside Shopping Centre Guest Services:
Hillside Centre accepts gently worn clothing and small fashion accessories on our behalf. Visit their Guest Services page to learn more.
Requesting a pick-up:
If you would like to organize an estate donation, or have a large quantity of houseware donations in excellent condition, fill out our Furniture & Housewares Pick-up Form.
*please note that we do not offer pick-ups for clothing.
